I met a cow in India. Her name was Narwal
She came in with four other heifers, but she made the world know that she was different.
She was special.
One day the girl who cleaned her stall came to the farmer and said,
“I can’t clean the stall anymore. Narwal pushes me out. “
The farmer went to the stall and sure enough, the five heifers made a semi circle
With Narwal at the center, and at her look, they approached the farmer
And gently, but firmly pushed him out of the stall.
The farmer knew he had a problem calf, but he had others before her
So he learned to cope with her idiosyncrasies
She had a rope harness, tied with a knot, like all the other cows
Every morning Narwal would be roaming free in the pasture with no harness
The farmer put the camera in her stall
She waited till the farmhands were gone
And then she did her neck movements and shoulder machinations
And freed herself from the harness
Narwal was artificially inseminated and was heavy with calf
One morning, when the farmhands came in
She was seated in a clean corner with a clean calf beside her
She delivered the calf in another corner, cleaned it and herself and found a comfy place to sit.
When her calf was weaned, the cowhands milked Narwal
She was a Jersey cow, and should have produced 22 liters of milk
But she only produced 2 liters of milk
Again, the cameras revealed that Narwal drank her own milk
Rather than produce it for sale
When another farmer tried to buy her
She refused to go on his truck. He finally gave up
Narwal had horns, she had eyes that melted your soul, so she lived a relatively free life
I think the world needs Narwals.
Yes indeed simply illustrated — true the sentiment of the writing —-
